Poem page five
Just a day at the office
An endless fight renewed each day,
A duel of delight and desperation
You are the prize I can never win.
Each dawn brings a sunlight stroll, unseen, to battle.
Though deeply wounded, even unto death,
I wear your colours in my heart.
Stepping lightly,
With a song of love and of devotion,
I worship you again.
Another day of magic begins, hence dreams are made.
I may brush against you once or twice,
Drawn a little closer than I would dare,
Fearing rejection and censure.
I am befuddled, half-hidden by my love,
Breathless at the sight of you, beauty.
But a day is bright when I see your eyes.
Your light, it floods the room.
You may smile or laugh,
And I will love you a thousand times.
But never, never say those words, "I love you"
So you will not reject me.
I will stay by you, when I should leave.
I will prolong each second, so precious, to be near you.
Together, we play when we should work.
Easily distracted, I follow all your games.
I will tease you, and love you for your laughter.
When chance allows, I will care for you and protect you,
Praise and elevate you by any means.
Our play it is for us,
My love it is unspoken and boundless,
Hidden within a work-day world.
A Duel of Delight and Desperation
