Poem page twenty-four
Futures
I almost knew what the future held
I knew of many futures foretold for us
I knew your thoughts more often than I told you that I knew,
One destiny was to become one,
Dreams merged. Beings as one,
One path could bring us together.
Time passed, this distance between us never bridged
I knew you would leave for the life I can't give,
But I held you closer and loved you more
I weep for the life you must live and the life I must live without you
I weep and suffer each second on the path that draws us apart
I knew this future lay ahead but I kept it just one more step away
My heart is broken
My tears, they flow, but in time all rivers run dry.
In our futures when I am gone I pray you were touched
By love and lessons learned
That you know you were held most precious and with highest regard
And that your future paths will be guided
By memories of a love more deeply felt.
A Duel of Delight and Desperation
