Choices

My twentieth cup of coffee, I find
Makes me tremble as standing
At my door I stare
Too long into the sun.
Pondering on where I might beg
A cigarette I curse
Myself for having been stronger
When the shops were open.
I wish I had
Wine in the fridge as my face
Accepts the grimace
Of a man locked apart
From societys pleasures for
A sentence suiting his crime.
The music upstairs playing
Loudly with complete
Disregard for the neighbours
Interupts
Briefly into my flickering
Memories as the cat
Scratches her ear on my foot
Balanced precariously on the step somewhere
In the anonymous wall
A window slams shut I suppose
Against my noise.
Neither knowing nor caring from
Which side it came right
Or left a face might
Be watching maybe
My image is of a man
Insane but who can know
Which way
I may
Go.

A Duel of Delight and Desperation
