Poem page twelve
Last Night
"I need you" she said,
Stumbling through shadows.
"I had a dream of flashes and fire,
It frightened me".
Naked under the sheets I held her
Sensing more than seeing I understood
And accompanied by a roll of distant thunder
I told her "It`s a storm"
Her back to my chest
Our hands clasped at her breast
As I listened to the storm and the window rattle
I knew again I loved her
Now warm and breathing evenly against me
My face in her hair
I enjoyed the scent and the warm softness of her
I wanted her to stay
To always need me but never from fear
For us to be strong and safe together
But I knew she would soon go
And fearing sleep
And morning discovery
She left
Renewed in spirit
And never to return
A Duel of Delight and Desperation
