The marrows and pumpkins have ballooned this month. A couple have rotted as young plants
or sucumbed to grey mould.
They are very soft and I have scarred them when putting tiles underneath, this may lead to
further losses. The pumpkin patch has spread into space vacated by the potato harvest.
As the bush fruit has been harvested I have removed the temporary net wigwams and dismantled
the inherited metal box that was on the plot when I got it and started on the construction of a
large fruit cage for next years fruit. I used the adapted frame of an old shed covered with
builders mesh. I have added a few inches of wood mulch to the floor. All these materials were
gifted.
Later I will add a stawberry net as a roof that will let in pollinating insects. When the two
trees and lavander go dormant for the winter I will move them out of the cage. That will make
space to move two existing fruit bushes in and seperate the two blueberry bushes.
The small space behind the fruit cage is home to four rose bushes.
I have continued to edge the paths with boards left over from other constuction work, this
gives me a line to strim to.
