Plot July 2004
Harvest time. My first spuds and onions. Tomatillos are mexican husk tomatoes, related to
cape gooseberries. These have grown out the top of the lean-to greenhouse and are
now producing masses of fruit. I like blackberries, they are a food of my childhood.
Something I`d never eaten until a plot neighbour gave me one was butternut squash, now I have
butternut squash growing nicely. (One was
later stolen) There are melons in the cold frame. The flowers have to be fertilized
by hand but they all made babies, some rotted but I was still able to enjoy the smell
of melons ripening on my kitchen window sill on my wedding day.
The mysterious pink flower is one of many seeds I planted and the poppies
seed themselves much more sucessfully.
